While I Was Gone

My blogging hiatus has a good excuse. Between illnesses, doctors’ visits, and trying to keep up with adult life, I’ve been stopping to soak in the special moments. Evelyn’s first (of many) pieces of art is extraordinary in numerous ways. It is a miracle she is a part of our family and here. It is remarkable that she is thriving in her school, learning and expanding on her curiosity each day. But perhaps the part that melts my heart into a glob of infinite love and awe is that she made this with her feet.

As we near the end of the required three months of wearing her brace shoes full-time, I relive sublime gratefulness every day as it fills my motherly soul. Her feet will never know they were once clubbed. They are straight. They are functional. They are beautiful. They make art.imag0084.jpg

I have been working on this memoir-style project for a while now, and I'm excited to share it with others. My hope is to get as wide an audience as possible, and to receive comments, suggestions, and ideas to improve and expand what I have. I also want to encourage others to become curious about the topic of babies, and the loss that can come with the adventures of trying to start a family. In the world of celebrating healthy babies, we who know otherwise need a voice too.
