Happy Birthday Sophia

As we celebrate Sophia’s fifth birthday today, we note the profound gratitude we have in sharing this day with Evelyn. I often speak to her of her big sister: how much they look the same, how beautiful Sophia was, and how we love them both so. Despite her departure from our physical lives, Sophia will forever have importance as the big sister. She will always bestow upon the three of us a loving sadness and wisdom that would otherwise remain obscure.

So, as we go out for our annual birthday dinner tonight, clink our glasses in a toast to our little angel, and fondly remember through tears how we first became parents half a decade ago, a new joy will sparkle throughout the difficult memories. With each wide-mouthed smile, gleeful coo, and adoring gaze from Evelyn’s brilliant blue eyes, we are deeply blessed to have found a new reason to smile.

I have been working on this memoir-style project for a while now, and I'm excited to share it with others. My hope is to get as wide an audience as possible, and to receive comments, suggestions, and ideas to improve and expand what I have. I also want to encourage others to become curious about the topic of babies, and the loss that can come with the adventures of trying to start a family. In the world of celebrating healthy babies, we who know otherwise need a voice too.
