What Do You Get Out Of It?

What you bring to the table:

Fiction: novels or parts of novels, short stories, flash fiction.

Nonfiction: memoirs, personal essays, blogs, and articles.

If you aren’t sure which category you fit into, or you feel you are outside one of these, let’s schedule a free chat and we’ll see if the collaboration would be a good one.

I offer questions and observations instead of harsh criticism–I express what my experience was as a reader, and your job will be to see if that aligns with your vision.

First and foremost, I believe that higher order issues are paramount. I will offer feedback on bigger issue things such as structure, plot, characters, and use of description and details. We can discuss a plan for the story, how to write a beginning or ending to your work, or how to restructure and play with it until it reads just the way you like. In other words, I look at the project as a whole and see how things are working well or where there could be more revision.

Of course, I also offer feedback on the sentence level–think syntax, sentence structure, word usage. I will point out lines and details that are beautifully written so you know what your strengths are. I’ll also highlight spots that may be worded in a confusing way, or make suggestions of how to make things flow better. Ultimately, it’s your writing style and your voice that need to come through. Take any suggestions that make sense to you and leave the rest behind!
