A New Way to Share

For the past several years, Sophia’s Story has been the vessel to carry my story of our daughter Sophia as well as my thoughts on miscarriage, recurrent pregnancy loss, and fertility issues. It has been the bridge connecting an impossible gap of people who have suffered similar journeys, or even not-so-similar ones. It has linked my grief to others’ as I am privileged to have been invited into the lives of countless people willing to share their heartbreaking stories with me. Through my writing, I have connected with new friends, old friends, current friends, and many people that were strangers but are now linked to one of the most important parts of my life. Starting my blog shortly after Sophia’s passing, I yearned to keep her story alive. Through my words, I believe I made Sophia proud; I know I made myself proud; hopefully I made my husband proud. As our journey continues, more tribulations, trying experiences, and even joyful moments pepper my world, and subsequently alter my goals for the future of my writing.

As our lives recently took a new turn, with the addition of our sweet Evelyn, my blog has changed its own course from solely sharing Sophia to one of exploring our new roles as parents. I am excited to announce that I will continue to chronicle our experiences and challenges with parenting after loss as a contributor with an exciting new online parenting magazine, Mommy Effect. After having followed Mommy Effect for a few weeks, I see the value to not only mothers (despite the name) but to parents of all varieties: new and seasoned parents, those suffering from fertility issues and loss, mothers and fathers working on raising the best little humans possible, and even those who seek reviews of products. With women’s viewpoints stemming from all walks of life, the diversity of these blog-style articles and insight into parenthood made me believe this was the right place for me to share as well.

I will continue Sophia’s Story, as Sophia will always be my first daughter and deserves a space of her own. My writing will simply grow and expand, just as most aspects of life do. I invite all followers of my writing (and new fans!) to check out Mommy Effect and the Contributor Page.

Stay tuned for information on my first piece to appear November 5th.

I have been working on this memoir-style project for a while now, and I'm excited to share it with others. My hope is to get as wide an audience as possible, and to receive comments, suggestions, and ideas to improve and expand what I have. I also want to encourage others to become curious about the topic of babies, and the loss that can come with the adventures of trying to start a family. In the world of celebrating healthy babies, we who know otherwise need a voice too.
